There is something more than merely impressive with the heave of effort a commercial jet takes for liftoff. The engines whine as if they’re ravenous, sucking in the air that fuels a searing fire; there is a guttural note of heavy machinery striving – the aural cornucopia strikes you with all its undertones of man’s genius, the bewildering juggling of scale in the blink of an eye, and the sheer ferocity of airborne speed. The metal behemoth takes to the sky, and all the world’s a stage.
