I thoroughly enjoyed the post titularly-named hour-long session at the Esplanade with Sebastian Tan of Broadway Beng fame. This guy can sing.
He executed his varied repertoire (comprising songs from plays, English and Mandarin classics, karaoke favourites, and some Hokkien pieces I’ve never heard) with considerable skill and wit, delightfully flaunting his versatility as a vocalist and charisma as a comedian. Oh, and he does an excellent rendition of Rick Price’s Heaven Knows. And I mean excellent.
He’s such a winsome character - just made for stage entertainment. I wish to catch Broadway Beng on its next run.
And who should be his pianist (the sole instrument) for the night other than the equally talented Elaine Chan? Elaine Chan as in Elaine Wan as in my music teacher from Secondary 1 to 3. She’s uber.
Being the naive, easily-influenced youth that I am, I now feel I have a calling to audition for the school’s musical production this year. But first comes practice, which will take up time I do not have.
