I Should Watch What I Say (Or Type)

…because I can’t stop thinking about the possible implications of having this blog in the future. What if by some chance some of its content comes and stabs me in the back?

Even Sergey Brin’s old usenet posts have been used to make fun of him. (Ironically, the archived posts are stored on Google Groups.) This might not seem very harmful to his reputation, probably coming off as a little too petty or nitpicky (no doubt thanks to Sergey’s conservative posting), but Valleywag and the like could be fearsome - if given juicier material to work with.

Take Willa Holland, the OC actress’ example. As the article on wikipedia states (read the ‘Controversy’ section), she had some personal information on her MySpace account, namely her profession of love of alcohol. She endured harsh criticism (and humiliation) and subsequently removed her ‘Space. Soon after, her Xanga account was uncovered and its contents similarly used against her. Her cellphone number was found, too, and of course idiots started to pester her via calls. A living nightmare, if you ask me.

So I guess I have yet another reason to enforce a certain standard of self-censorship on what I say online. Hopefully, in the future, I can glance through what I’ve written through the years (all the clean stuff), and possibly have a better chronological understanding of how I got there.
