Suffering from a lack of interesting sponsor booths, the WCG was quite - here’s it coming - boring. I spotted a exhibition of sorts, on action figures, though, and surprised as I was I couldn’t go touch - only see. The figurines were displayed behind a wall of glass (or plastic).
They had gundam mechas! I’m not sure what the organizers were trying to achieve with these toys, but it sure worked on me! PC/console gaming and cool action figures definitely mix. Too bad it was only a visual affair, though.
They’ve gotta be kidding, right? I mean, displaying LIMITED EDITION Final Fantasy VII merchandise like that… Cloud Strife with his old and new bikes, chocobos ( I want like, a 100), and i think the whole crew of FFVII was lying down there, in action-figure form.
This one’s surely worth a mention, too: Star Wars.
Hand-painted with incredible care and skill, the figurines could number a real clone army. I think there’s more in the background which I didn’t take. The display was just magnificent.
So far, the World Cyber Game’s greatest attraction hadn’t been the games. We’ll see how the organizers tied the gaming into the heart of this event soon.
